ABSTRACT The Vertebral Animator, a Windows 3D graphic application, was designed to give further insight into interosseous articular relationships by glimpsing the three dimensional components of vertebral misalignment within a virtual world. In some traditional chiropractic methodologies, weight-bearing plain-film x-rays of the upper cervical region are analyzed and measured in various ways to identify misalignment extent and complexity. The need to understand more accurately what these measurements correspond to is an ongoing challenge. Creating a three dimensional real-world perspective can aid in the research of how and where tissues may be affected by vertebral misalignment and in finding new and better ways to correct the misaligned segments. The combination of DirectX with the Microsoft Foundation Classes is seen as part of this growing process of utilizing advanced user interfaces for real-time graphics solutions.
